Deep Water Culture (DWC)

I have recently uploaded a new video on the Deep Water Culture (DWC) bed which is a part of the aquaponics system at TSH. This post outlines exactly how this element functions as a stand alone unit, and a later posts will integrate it within the whole.

  • Perhaps you could also put fingerlings in the DWC bed?

  • Shane:

You could but in all likelihood you’d have problems with solids in the water. DWC really needs the water to be pre-filtered so that solids don’t clog up the ‘air pores’ in the roots. Some solids seems to be OK, but if you get too much the growth of the plants definitely slows.

“Permaculture is the use of ecology as the basis for designing integrated systems of food production, housing appropriate technology and community development. It offers a practical, creative approach to the problems of diminishing resources and threatened life support systems now facing the world.”
